Gavin Boyce |
 |
Gavin's music career really came to fruition whilst resident at Resistance, one
of Waterford's best known club nights.
It was here that Gavin, along with his partner in crime Mac, supported some
of the world's premier jocks, like Laurent Garnier, Groove Armada &
Erick Morillo to name a few. It was around this time that Gavin also started
to work on his own productions. A few months later, his first track 'She
the Truth' was snapped up by Canadian label, Sounds like Ultra and has since
been signed to DJ Sneak's Oomph label. Then armed with a Limited CD Sampler containing
just 6 of Gavin's tracks, his work was taking to the Miami WMC by fellow
RePublikan Ray C. It was here that his production skills started to make
waves amongst the elite of
the house music industry with all 6 tracks been snapped up by some top labels.
In fact two of the tracks from this sampler have been licensed to CD compilations
for Mark Farina's Ministry and OM Mixes. In this short period of time Gavin
has established himself as one of Ireland's top house music producers with
releases and remixes on such esteemed labels as Greenhouse, Chillin' Music,
Nordic Trax, Oomph,Alphabet,
Kolour Recordings, Blue Iguana and more.
Gavin is known for his future thinking which has been reflected
in his music which cannot be pigeonholed to one side of house. His current work
has been played by DJs at each end of the spectrum, from Mark
Farina to Kerri Chandler to Fish Go Deep with his work often in the Charts
of some of the world's top DJs, His popularity as a producer has also
seen Gavin's DJ career prosper with regular national & international
gigs now the norm for our Boycie! Along with Dos, Gavin's Re:Publik
duties entails the design
of our visuals for our events as well as been our on call sound & light
expert, so if you see something that you like on our screens or posters,

Paul McCarthy (aka: Mac) |
 |
Along with Kenno, Mac is
one of the younger RePublikans but it still feels likes he has been around
forever such was his interest in House music from a very young age. Having
played a few small gigs around Waterford, Paul got his first real break
when he was selected alongside Gavin as a Resitance resident.. At Resistance Mac really developed his own sound, and got the opportunity
he always craved when supporting, Laurent Garnier , Mac's longtime music hero. Along with Mr Garnier, Paul also supported Slam, Timo Maas, Cajmere and more as well as
playing alongside another musical hero of Paul's, Charles
Webster via his Re:Publik slot. Paul is at ease playing any style from
minimal techno to deep house and anything in between and is known for
never playing the obvious and sticking to his guns, definitely a DJ's DJ . Paul was influential in bringing in Ame for Re:Publik who along with
Henrick Scwarz, and Dixon
are currently the forerunners of the deep and minimal scene.
Mac has also gained some valuable experience with the promoting side of things with Re:Publik and this makes
him a vital cog in the Re:Publik wheel. Paul is known within
the Re:Publik
camp for liaising with our venue's and he often don's our 'business cap'
where Re:Publik is concerned.

Michael Kennedy (aka: Kenno) |
 |
We often think Michael Kennedy was born
with headphones on and a bag of tracks on his shoulder. Kenno has been DJing
since his teens and has been hooked on house music from a very young age.
He was the original winner of the Musiklab DJ Competition several years
ago and he hasn't looked back since. Before RePublik, Kenno had done some
regular gigs for legendary Waterford club night, Musiklab supporting the likes
of Derrick Carter & Yousef, before he was snapped up by Warren & Tony's
InspireMusik as a resident for their record store events. It was there he mixed
and produced the first instalment of 'B-Inspire-D', a 3 part mix CD series from
Inspire that showcased the regions talented up & coming DJs. The CD went on
to gain rave reviews from all corners of the dance music industry both nationally
& internationally with CDs been sent out to US, UK and even Australia
In his time with Re:Publik, Kenno has played with some of his
house music idols like Mark Farina and Inland Knights. Never afraid of trying new
things musically, Kenno's mixing and technial ability has been noted by his peers
and indeed by some of our guest DJs. Within Re:Publik Mr Kennedy is responsible
for our flyer and poster distribution as well as design, not easily pleased at the
best of times, he is now responsible for bringing in some of the new talent to Re:Publik
and we think with the amount of music he gets through, there certainly isn't anyone
better!

Dermot O Sullivan (aka: Dos) |
 |
One of the newest members
of RePublik; Dos has revolutionised the look of RePublik with a revamped
website and a whole lot more. Where our online world is concerned Dos has
brought us forward by years in less than a month. But he is more than just
RePublik's Graphic Designer, after graduating in 2005 as a software engineer
he currently works fulltime in Waterford as a Software Developer. When you
go online and see anything to do with RePublik, this is the man who is responsible,
no mean feat considering the amount of work involved, and we RePublikans
are delighted he has got involved. Musically he has been a keen follower
of electronic music for over a decade listening to the likes of Underworld,
Leftfield, Chemical Bro's before his visit to Ibiza which opened him up
to the world of Underground House Music, he literally got off the plane,
bought a set of decks and the rest as they say, is history.
I'm struggling to recall a house music event
he hasn't attended in the past couple of years such is his appetite for
it. Dos recently made his RePublik debut behind the decks at RePublik which
was a nice change for Dos who is normally at the other side of the stage.
You will often see Dos doing the rounds with his camera at our events so
if you appear in our gallery section you know who put you there!! Dos
is in charge of most of the visual aspects of republik. Everything from poster and
website design to club visuals. For any website queries or anything to do with the
visual side of things, Dos is the man
to hola at....

Darren Dalton (aka: Daz) |
 |
Daz, a collector of vinyl since the mid 90’s, A qualified sound engineer, A man
with a passion for "All Things House", A DJ who is no stranger to the Waterford
club scene, a DJ who likes piecing together his own tracks & re-edits to make
his sets more exclusive and unique, and one hell of a nice guy. Daz has been DJing
around Waterford City & the south east since the tender age of 17, learning
his trade in the now famous Roxy where he held a Sunday night residence along side
Owie (Tasty), Cley & Stephen Flynn (DHM) since then he has played every major
venue Waterford has to offer including Forum, Rhythm Rooms, South, Ten, Axis Mundi,
The Plaza, The Bowery & even made it as far as Corks Club One. Over the years
he has been a resident DJ for successful club nights like "Shakedown" "Groove @
Axis Mundi" and was part founder of Waterford’s own "Bar Groove", always playing
to and pleasing the crowd but remaining true to himself and his passion for house
music.
He has proven this time and time again with various sets, mix CDs and crowded dance
floors. He has also had the honour of warming up for such DJs and Acts as Kenny
Dope, Kerri Chandler, Jon Cutler, DJ Deep, Felix Da Housecat, Yass, Matt Pond (Bittersuite),
The Unabombers, Hardsoul, Nik Harris (NRK), Jo Mills, The Problem Kids, Greg Dowling
(Fish Go Deep), Terry Farley, Stuart Patterson, Yousef, Cartoon and The Disconauts.
Soaking in influences from all styles of house, his sets will touch on Deep melodic,
Instrumental and Percussion filled, to full on vocal & his soft spot for Classic
House & Disco will always shine true. Never a DJ to be ideal or not working
and before a gig is even over he is planning the next big one, also known for pushing
the DJ experience that bit further by inviting along various Musicians to jam along
with & play over his records and also received Praise from the New York legend
Kerri Chandler when he added his name to the thanks list of both his NRK Coast 2
Coast & Southport weekender mix CDs.

Martin Roche |
 |
Although Martin is one of the newest members to join the RePublik stable, he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of promoting and playing at club nights. Martin story began back in '96 when he started DJ'n and caught the deep-house bug, since then he has been at the forefront of Waterford's deep house scene having played in almost every venue that has held dance events in Waterford like Preachers, Junction Bar , Ten, Bowery to name a few. Paul Bryan (aka: Bryaner) |
 |
Paul Bryan is one of Waterford's best known and respected house DJs with appearances in Waterford city behind the ones & two's for over 12 years now. Paul has been there, done that in terms of the Waterford dance scene. Famed for his bumpty style, Paul has supported some of the very best DJs this city has seen including DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, Luke Solomon, Roger Sanchez to name a few. Paul has always been a real DJs DJ, mainly because of his ability to get the dancefloors moving without the need to drop the latest anthem or big tune. Having played at just about every venue this town has to offer, Paul settled into a residency with famous Waterford club, Musiklab. At Musiklab he mixed and produced the first instalment of 'Sound of Musik' which went to receive critical acclaim from all over Ireland. This enabled Paul to bring his style to the Irish underground dance scene, and gigs throughout Ireland soon followed.
Paul was noted in HotPress recently as being one to watch, and rightly so. In 2007, Paul joined RePublik and with some very hot production work under his belt. We think 2008 will be one where Paul will see his productions come to the attention of some major labels. RePublik is certainly delighted to have someone of Pauls calibre on board.

Tony Barry
|
 |
Tony is our Re:Publik godfather
so to speak. He was there from the off at just about every event staged
in Waterford from the early 90's to present day. Tony first started DJing
in the mid 90's and played at the now legendary clubs like Roxy and Metroland.
In recent years Tony is more known for his record stores, first with his
brother and former Cant Stop DJ, Mickey via Twelve Ten Records, which really
brought life back into an otherwise stale house scene in Waterford at the
time and then carrying on when Mickey departed with Warren, with the Inspire
Musik store and website. At
Inspire he helped spawn a new breed of DJ in
Waterford. With Warren he also helped promote some nights through the years
and is known for his immense knowledge and love of all kinds of music not
just house Tony has his finger on the pulse and his opinion is held in high
regard by many a local DJ or clubber.
Tony was also one of the first Waterford
DJs to get into music production and although it has taking a back seat
at present he has always remained part of the local dance scene and even
all these years on, his appetite for all things house remains as hungry
as ever. First on and last off any dancefloor. |
